In his meetings, DCM Harris stressed U.S. views regarding the urgent need for Libyan parties to de-escalate the fighting in Tripoli and work through the UN-mediated political process to achieve their objectives. The United States is concerned about civilian casualties and calls on all parties to redouble their efforts to safeguard civilian lives and infrastructure. The United States supports Libyan efforts to promote the stability of Libya’s energy sector and advance reforms that promote transparency in the allocation of Libya’s natural resources for the benefit and prosperity of all Libyans. We will not rest in our efforts to find and bring the perpetrators of the attacks against U.S. personnel in Benghazi to justice, in the spirit of the U.S.-Libya partnership to defeat terrorism.
The U.S. Embassy calls on Libyan political, economic, and security leaders to end the current hostilities, support a political resolution to the conflict, and create the conditions for an ever-stronger U.S.-Libya relationship.
