Security Alert— Libya External Office
December 16, 2021
Reminder: The U.S. government is unable to provide emergency or routine assistance to U.S. citizens in Libya, as the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli suspended its operations in July 2014. Due to recent armed confrontations that have the potential to recur, the U.S. Embassy strongly encourages U.S. citizens to maintain a high level of vigilance and practice good situational awareness.
Do not travel to Libya due to crime, terrorism, civil unrest, kidnapping, and armed conflict. Reconsider travel to Libya due to COVID-19.
Actions to Take:
- Before traveling, review your flight information. Contact your air carrier with any additional questions.
- Monitor local media for update.
- Review the U.S. Department of State’s latest Travel Advisory for Libya, which advises U.S. citizens not to travel to Libya.
