The United States Distributes 5,000 Ramadan Baskets to Conflict-Affected Sirte Families

The U.S. Embassy to Libya (Tunis) – In the spirit of Ramadan, a time for reflection, tolerance, generosity and renewed friendship, the United States Embassy to Libya provided commodity baskets to 5,000 conflict-affected Sirte families in Tripoli, Mistrata, Sirte and other neighboring cities and towns in Sirte region. The baskets, which contain food that is traditionally consumed during the Muslim holy month and other basic necessities, were distributed in cooperation with the Tripoli Center, the Abu Salim, the Misrata and the Sirte municipal councils starting from mid-Ramadan until Eid Al-Fiter.

“Ramadan is a time for generosity and extending a helping hand to those in difficult circumstances,” said U.S. Ambassador to Libya Peter Bodde. “On this special occasion, I want to wish our friends in Libya a safe and blessed Ramadan and Eid celebration.”

The United States is committed to strengthening the U.S.-Libya partnership and works to support a stable, prosperous and democratic Libya.
